How am I supposed to accept things that are literally damage to my body?
(e.g. broken nose, botched c-sections, scarring or burns from accidents)
Assuming you can't, won't, or shouldn't repair the damage (see our post regarding treating disfigurements), it looks like you are going to live with this condition. If you choose, that can be a liberating realization. If you have a scar that is literally unfixable, it doesn't make much sense to keep fixating on it as a problem, anymore than it makes sense for a homeowner to set her heart on a design plan that relies on removing supporting walls.
There's a beautiful line in one of Forty's favorite books, Tehanu, by Ursula K. Le Guin. In describing a little girl who had been mutilated and ostracized, her adoptive mother, Tenar says, "What cannot be mended must be transcended."
There are thousands of inspiring videos online of people who have done amazing things after losing limbs, hearing, sight, their entire family, etc. Watching these may give you some perspective, as well as some ideas on how to make sense of what you are dealing with.
